Displays and HMIs are part of our daily life. Whether in cars, for operating machines, in facility management or in medical technology: smart, appealing design and interfaces that can be operated intuitivley make our lives easier. Many people can still remember the days when displays and HMIs performed rather poorly and users struggled to operate them. The reliability of these systems has a lot to do with cleanliness and high-quality manufacturing. Today’s displays and HMIs consist of several layers, and they only function properly if the optical bonding, i.e. the liquid bonding of the screen, is performed without dust and bubbles. By using Openair-Plasma surface treatment the layers can be cleaned and activated before the Liquid Optically Clear Adhesive (LOCA) is applied. The activation results in an increase in adhesive capacity which prevents the so-called bubble effect, in which bubbles and cavities can form between the layers. In addition, this step eliminates all material stress, such as material tension, which can occur with traditional chemical processes.
