Flux gels are often used for repair and rework on assembled PCBs. In the past, fluxes for hand and repair soldering contained activators diffrent form those used in series production. Often the two fluxes also produced by different manufacturers or are made with different formulas. Creating a risk of cross-reactions between the fluxes. To avoid this, there are flux gels that have the same activator base as the flux used in series production and are from one manufacturer. These flux gels are ideal when electronics manufacturers are looking to use the same flux activator in different processes.
The respective gel is highly concentrated and is characterized by high activity as well as good wetting and spreading. Due to these properties, the paste should be applied sparingly. The gel is applied with a dosing syringe. This enables an exact application or positioning of the flux. Contaminated pads and component legs are also activated by the gel. No crystals are formed and the solder gel remains homogeneous and stable. After soldering, the gels do not leave any sticky residues.
